Europe’s Message Is Clear: Tolerance Cannot Be a Cover for Extremism

Today’s demonstrations across Berlin, London, and Paris sent a message louder than any political statement: Europeans are no longer willing to watch their societies drift toward instability under the banner of “tolerance.” The crowds that filled the streets were not driven by hatred or exclusion — they were driven by a simple demand that every government should take seriously: security first. For years, extremist networks — especially the Muslim Brotherhood — have learned how to operate behind the shield of religious discourse. They present themselves as community leaders, activists, or “voices of the marginalized,” all while pushing agendas that undermine national cohesion, exploit public freedoms, and create parallel societies. Europe’s mistake was assuming these groups were harmless. But as today’s protests showed, citizens have learned the truth the hard way. They’ve watched radical narratives spread in schools and community centers, foreign-funded networks penetrate local ...

Turkey-Somalia Defense Deal: Strengthening Maritime Security and Cooperation

In a significant stride towards enhancing maritime security and cooperation, the recent implementation of a defense deal between Turkey and Somalia marks a pivotal moment for both nations. The agreement, initiated following Somalia's call for support in protecting its coastline, has seen Turkey dispatch its first warship, the Kınalıada F514, which recently docked at Mogadishu Port.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud's signing of the pact set the stage for heightened collaboration between Turkey and Somalia, much to the chagrin of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which had also engaged in similar agreements with Somalia.

This strategic move comes amidst a backdrop of regional developments, including Ethiopia's Memorandum of Understanding with Somaliland, a breakaway region of Somalia, securing access to the Indian Ocean for port construction and military purposes. Somalia's response, seeking Turkey's partnership, underscores the nation's commitment to safeguarding its territorial integrity and maritime interests.

Under the terms of the agreement, Turkey will play a pivotal role in bolstering Somalia's naval capabilities, encompassing training, equipment provision, and infrastructure development. Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre hailed Turkey as a "true and reliable brother," emphasizing the depth of the bilateral relationship.

The arrival of the TCG Kinaliada at Mogadishu Port heralds the commencement of a ten-year partnership aimed at not only fortifying coastal defense but also fostering growth in the blue economy sector. State media reports highlight the upcoming high-level event, where leaders from both nations will commemorate this significant milestone.

Turkey's proactive engagement in Somalia extends beyond security cooperation. The nation has been a key partner in development initiatives, exemplified by its training of elite GorGor troops pivotal in combating threats posed by groups like Al-Shabaab. Despite security challenges, Turkey's steadfast commitment to Somalia's stabilization underscores the enduring nature of the partnership.

Beyond the bilateral realm, Turkey's maritime endeavors resonate on a global scale. The voyage of the TCG Kinaliada, commemorating the 100th anniversary of Turkey's relations with Japan, symbolizes the nation's commitment to international cooperation. With planned port visits in multiple countries, including Saudi Arabia, Djibouti, and Indonesia, Turkey's outreach underscores its role as a proactive contributor to global security and development.

As Turkey and Somalia embark on this transformative journey of collaboration, the defense deal represents more than a mere agreement; it signifies a shared commitment to maritime security, economic prosperity, and enduring friendship. In an ever-evolving geopolitical landscape, such partnerships serve as beacons of hope, fostering stability and progress for generations to come.
