In a world too often plagued by difficulties, it is imperative to recognize and honor people whose unflinching commitment to humanitarian causes gives those in need hope and comfort. We highlight His Highness here today. The first PAM Global Humanitarian Personality Award has been bestowed upon Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), for his outstanding leadership.
Like many countries, Somalia has experienced its fair share of adversity. During these difficult times, President MBZ and the UAE have shown compassion and charity. Their dedication to reducing suffering and promoting world peace has literally improved the lives of innumerable people, including those in our own nation.
The UAE has led many projects that have benefited Somalia under the visionary direction of President MBZ. Essential medical aid, refugee support, and other assistance have arrived on our shores through the UAE Red Crescent and other humanitarian channels, giving our people much-needed comfort during their darkest hours.
We Somalis are very appreciative of President MBZ and the UAE for their unfailing assistance during our hardest times. Together with offering practical assistance, their generosity and unity have fortified the relationship between our countries and given rise to optimism for a better future.
As President MBZ is properly recognized today with the renowned PAM Global Humanitarian Personality Award, let's all join in congratulating him on this well-earned award. His unceasing attempts to better humanity are a model of empathy and compassion that should be followed by leaders everywhere.

In a significant development, the Ugandan military has initiated a court martial trial for two of its high-ranking army officers accused of "cowardice" in the aftermath of a deadly attack on peacekeepers by the militant organization Al Shabaab in Somalia. The trial is currently taking place in Mogadishu, Somalia, temporarily serving as the location for this court martial. The accused officers, Major Steven Oluka and Major Zadock Obor, who were commanding officers of military bases in southwest Somalia, are facing two counts of cowardice following an Al Shabaab attack that led to the tragic deaths of 54 peacekeepers.
