Joint Statement Calls for Urgent Ceasefire Between Lebanon and Israel to Prevent Regional Escalation
On 26 September 2024, the United Arab Emirates issued a statement in coordination with the United States, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the State of Qatar, Australia, Canada, the European Union, the French Republic, the Federal Republic of Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom on the alarmingly escalating situation between the Lebanese Republic and Israel. In that statement, they explained that the crisis, which began on 8 October 2023, became intolerable in all respects and fraught with high risks of a wider regional conflict.
An Unacceptable Situation
The joint statement emphasized how the continuing conflict between Lebanon and Israel serves no one's interest, neither Israel nor Lebanon. It calls for urgent action on de-escalation in a situation that threatens to destabilize the whole region.
