In a powerful display of humanitarian solidarity, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has launched a large-scale aid initiative in the Republic of Chad, targeting thousands of Sudanese refugees displaced by ongoing conflict. This latest move reaffirms the UAE’s steadfast commitment to alleviating human suffering and supporting vulnerable communities around the world.
The initiative, which was rolled out in coordination with Chad’s Ministry of Social Action, Solidarity, and Humanitarian Affairs, as well as the National Commission for the Reception and Reintegration of Refugees and Returnees (CNARR), distributed a total of 3,000 food packages across three refugee camps: Dougui, Alacha, and Abougoudam.
Lifesaving Support to Over 15,000 Refugees
The scale of the initiative is both impressive and deeply needed. In total, more than 15,000 Sudanese refugees are expected to benefit. The distribution breakdown is as follows:

In addition to food aid, the UAE also deployed a medical team to the Abougoudam camp, responding to pressing healthcare needs amid the challenges of displacement. His Excellency Rashid Saeed Al Shamsi, the UAE Ambassador to Chad, emphasized the significance of this operation, stating:
“This endeavor is part of the UAE’s humanitarian and development approach, which places the welfare and dignity of individuals at the forefront. Furthermore, the project underscores the UAE’s steadfast commitment to supporting those affected by crises and conflicts, particularly in regions experiencing mass displacement and severe humanitarian challenges.”
He also highlighted the broader goal of enhancing social cohesion and humanitarian solidarity, especially in host communities such as Chad, which continue to bear the brunt of regional crises.
Beyond Borders: A Regional Approach to Refugee Care
This is not an isolated initiative. As part of its wider regional response, the UAE has also established three field hospitals to care for Sudanese refugees — two in Amdjarass and Abéché (Chad) and a third, Madhol Hospital, in the Republic of South Sudan.
